Hi! Welcome to ShreesHealth !

Health plays a vital role in maintaining the happiness of an individual and the family. Like a usual day, one day I had a conversation with someone who was not well. We spoke regarding health and its impact on an individual and the entire family affected by the same. While talking I got to know that the person is taking medicine for some ailment but did not have any idea regarding the ailment or the medicine. The person was not aware of what happens during the particular health condition and what that medicine does to the body. This is not just with one person; it is with many I have come across so far. Some of us who know the basics of science and have read books may have fair idea. Some would have searched on search engines and may have some idea. And many of us may have no idea. We don’t even know the actual issue that our body faces. For example, when Coronavirus started coming in news what I simply thought was that there is a virus in the market which is come from our neighboring country to kill us and the fear itself killed many. From the articles that I have read recently I understand that even the doctors did not know much about Coronavirus back then in February 2020; that they know now. So it is very important to know about the problem first, understand it and then treat it.

That’s the reason I thought why not discuss it here. Discuss about what is what? Today, we will discuss what we learnt in past few months. The most used word of the year Immunity and Immune System. The animals and human beings are forced to encounter many dangerous microbes in their day to day life, through air, water and food. Inside our body there is an amazing protective mechanism called the IMMUNE SYSTEM. It protects us in there different ways. First, it does not allow the bacteria or virus to enter our body. Second, in case if the bacteria or virus somehow slips inside our body, the immune system tries to find it and fight it before it starts reproducing itself. Last, if the bacteria or virus start reproducing inside our body and cause problems the immune system eliminates it. The interesting fact is that the immune system keeps a record of every bacteria or virus it has ever defeated. So if a microbe that has interacted with the immune system earlier gets into the body again, it is recognized by the immune system and destroyed immediately.

The body’s natural defence mechanism against these foreign invaders is IMMUNITY. So it is very important that our body has good Immunity. There are 2 types of Immunity, Innate and Adaptive. Innate Immunity is the first line of defence. This is the immunity one is born with and is the initial response by the body to eliminate microbes and prevent infection. Adaptive Immunity is the immunity one develops throughout life. It usually improves upon repeated exposure to a given infection. This is a natural way of acquiring immunity; it takes time but lasts lifelong. The other way is artificial way of acquiring immunity through vaccination; it lasts for few months.

We can strengthen our immune system by maintaining a healthy weight, by eating a well balanced diet high in fruits and vegetables, by exercising regularly, sleeping well and maintaining good hygiene.

Doctors and scientists have been trying to find the right medicine and vaccine for Coronavirus. But until then what we need to do to keep the virus away is BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY!
